From 6pm on 19 November, The Drop wine bar is hosting a casual and un-ticketed night, with a focus on the Piedmont region of northwest Italy, famed for its fine wines and exceptional produce. Head chef Karan Ghosh will be serving a menu that includes: risotto with wild mushrooms; Piedmontese cheeses such as Castelmagno and Bra Duro; and for dessert, a hazelnut torta di nocciola with chocolate and chestnut.

The Drop-In will feature a carefully selected list of wines from Piedmont, primarily focusing on some of the most well-respected reds in the country. On the night, there will be a typically full-bodied Barolo Serralunga DOCG from Boasso, with dark fruit and spicy notes; a complex, oak-aged Barbera d’Alba DOC from Umberto Fracassi; and La Ca’Nova’s Dolcetto DOC, a bright and juicy red. For lovers of white wine, The Drop has La Raia’s Gavi Riserva DOCG on the list, a clean, green, white, with a gentle hint of peaches and wild mint. Wines will be available to try by the glass or bottle.

The Piedmontese Drop-In is part of The Drop’s series of Drop-In events, each focused on a certain wine region or style of wine. In December, the series will take a break to make way for a festive Christmas market on 13, 14 and 15, before returning in January.

The Drop’s monthly events are intended to be a genuinely accessible, delicious and sociable way to discover new wines and develop your palate. The Drop team will be on hand to engage with guests about the wines, but there is no commitment to do anything more than try whatever you want to. The main a la carte menu will not be available on event evenings, however, there will always be a vegetarian option available.

To join the Piedmontese Drop-In, simply turn up to The Drop at Coal Drops Yard from 6pm on Tuesday 19 November.
