In 2003, my twin brother Antony and I set out to transform the mundane into the extraordinary with our very first product—a cleverly designed glass chopping board. What we didn’t know was that this would be the start of something brilliant. Growing up surrounded by a family legacy in design and manufacturing, we were inspired by our grandfather’s glass component factory in Birmingham. From a young age, we always loved making things together, so crafting and creating became a natural part of our lives. Our summers spent in the factory instilled in us a passion for inventing and a profound appreciation for good design.
With our formal education in design, we both cultivated a unique perspective that blended functionality with premium quality. While I began my journey with Dyson, embracing the cutting-edge innovations in product design, Antony’s creative flair grounded our philosophy, guiding us through a lens of aesthetic appeal.
What started as a sideline project in our family’s factory quickly morphed into something much larger – a business that would challenge norms in homeware and elevate everyday tasks into delightful experiences. We’re frustrated by products all the time and we approach every design innovation with the same formula – by looking at tasks in the home and understanding what the problems are, and how we can create products that can do better. Fuelled by the frustrations we encounter daily with existing products and a passion for innovation, our design process has always been rooted in problem-solving and thinking: ‘how can we make this work better?’ Each design is born from an understanding of these real-life challenges, leading us to create solutions that genuinely enhance daily living.
Fast forward to today, and Joseph Joseph stands as a testament to this philosophy, continuing to blend innovative design with the needs of aspirational modern living. Our practical products reflect a contemporary lifestyle without compromising functionality. The launch of Space cookware demonstrates our commitment to responsible innovation and problem-solving – the premium range offers the most compact storage solution for pans and lids, saving up to 50% more space than standard cookware. We are proud to inspire home cooks with cleverly designed products that maximise performance, are engineered to last, and are made for the future.
Our journey from that single glass chopping board to a global brand has been marked by milestone moments that reflect both our dedication and our vision. Our award-winning solutions for laundry, storage, cooking, and cleaning are meticulously engineered to be not just effective, but undeniably aesthetically pleasing.
What sets us apart is our unique ability to blend user-centric innovation with contemporary style. Our design studio in Southwark thrives on creativity and collaboration. Here, we prototype, research, and rigorously test every product to ensure it meets our high standards before it graces retail shelves.
For the future, we can apply our approach to innovation and invention to areas like sustainability. We have a responsibility as inventors to play a part in future developments and create new sustainable materials, merging style and functionality with environmental consciousness.
Reflecting on our journey, we are continually motivated by one fundamental truth: design is not just about how things look, but how they work. More than just a brand, we believe Joseph Joseph reflects a philosophy of life that embraces beauty and utility. Every one of our products symbolises our dedication to improving everyday tasks, making life simpler, and more enjoyable. As we continue to evolve, our focus will remain on creating beautiful, long-lasting products made for the future, that not only enrich our homes but make daily tasks easier.
Here’s to the future of homewares – a future we’re excited to shape, one innovative design at a time.
