Collaborations have been an intrinsic part of the excitement behind bars at the top level over the last decade, with events across the calendar seeing like-minded bartenders jet out to the international scene's best spots for one-off menus to get loose with a new audience of drinkers.
This series from Santiago Lastra's acclaimed Mexican restaurant KOL is certainly in that bracket – and it's one that's sure to intrigue drinkers of mezcal, given The Explorer Series is all about bringing some of the world's top agave bars to Marylebone for Sunday nights throughout 2023, and is executed in association with the excellent Lost Explorer mezcal.
Kicking off with Athens bar Barro Negro and continuing with Rome's La Punta and Amsterdam's Salmuera, it'll run from on six select Sundays in 2023, and be a celebration of mezcal with some of the scene's top talent – and pretty much the ideal culmination to a proper Sunday funday, if you ask us.
Kol Mezcaleria x Barro Negro
The first of six scheduled events sees Barro Negro come to town from Athens on Sunday 26 February, from 6-11pm. Athens’ first tequila and mezcal bar, Barro Negro claimed the number 52 spot on the World's 50 Best Bar's Discovery List, and was founded with the mission to showcase the dynamism and variety of agave spirits to a new audience – much like KOL Mezcaleria itself.
With an extensive knowledge and passion for all thing agave, the Barro Negro bartenders will showcase a one-off menu of their most iconic cocktail creations, signature vibes and award-winning aproach mixology. Offering six different cocktails, utilising three different expressions of The Lost Explorer Mezcal (Espadín, Tobalá and Salmiana) with a cocktail made using each by Barro Negro and the KOL Mezcaleria team, the evening will also see Santiago Lastra’s antojitos menu – street food-inspired snacks translated to mean ‘little cravings’. Which is exactly what we get after a few mezcal cocktails.
