The perfect vodka martini from The Connaught Bar

The World's Best Bar is known for Ago Perrone's flawless martinis, and this one uses Polish vodka Konik's Tail to beautiful effect

People have differing views on the martini – gin or vodka, bone-dry or sopping wet, stirred or (shudder) shaken.

But what's not particularly debatable is that London's Connaught Bar is about the best place in the world to drink one. The legendary Mayfair's bar, run by bartender Ago Perrone, recently claimed top spot at the World's 50 Best Bars awards, and remains a place where drinkers from London and across the world flock for an aperitif made from the dedicated martini trolley inside the beautiful room.

Perrone and his team have an own-label gin, but they're also huge fans of Poloish vodka Konik's Tail, and their classic vodka martini is an absolute knockout. To celebrate World Martini Day on 16 June, they've come up with a riff on it – made with Konik's Tail with dry and sweet vermouth milk punch, and cassia and bee balm-aged cordial, but for a classic option, check out the recipe below.

Ingredients

  • 75ml Konik's Tail Vodka
  • 15ml Connaught vermouth mix (use dry vermouth)
  • 3 drops aromatic bitters (to be chosen from tonka, cardamom, lavender, ginseng and bergamot or coriander)

Method

  1. Stir the vermouth mix and vodka over ice and strain into a martini glass coated with the bitter of choice.
  2. Garnish with lemon zest or olive.
