This cocktail with Ron Zacapa 23 is all smoky sweetness and aromatic flavour from the leeks. It's an unusual mix, but a good one – here's the recipe

Ron Zacapa's leek and balsamic vinegar cocktail

If you're not one for savoury cocktails, this cocktail from Ron Zacapa is a good place to start – it's got the tang of balsamic vinegar, gently tempered by the smoky flavour of chestnuts and the sweetness of the honey. It's being served at Typing Room at Shoreditch Town Hall for the next couple of months as part of Ron Zacapa's Art of Slow menu, which you can read more about in our pop-up guide. For best results, perch the leek slices on top of the ice cube so you get a whiff every time you swig.

Ingredients

  • 50ml Zacapa 23
  • 2 slices of honey-roasted leek (lightly muddled in a mixing glass)
  • 3ml balsamic vinegar
  • 2 pinches all spice
  • 5ml honey
  • 10ml chestnut liqueur

Method

Stir down all the ingredients and double strain over ice. Serve in a rocks glass and garnish with a slice of leek.
