Flavour of the Week: MOMMI

From the team behind Camden's KOKO, new Nikkei haven MOMMI arrives on Clapham High Street in style

What's the draw

A new exponent of the burgeoning Nikkei scene (that's Peruvian/Japanese fusion, for those at the back), MOMMI serves up great sushi, ceviche and barbecued meats from the robata grill – à la carte or as a slimmed-down, £15 set menu before 6:30pm.

What to drink

We started with the Sangrita, which piqued our curiosity when we saw it on Instagram – tequila, agave and verdita served over spicy tequila-infused ice. The wine list is compact, but there are great sakes and beers if you're not up for mixed drinks.

What to eat

Plates are small, but they'll keep on coming if you let them. We stopped at six – all vibrantly colourful, flavoursome and with real depth. We had the mixed MOMMI platter of sushi and the lobster and yellowtail ceviche to start, and the beef teriyaki with quinoa was a succulent highlight. An added bonus: the bill comes with a pair of handcrafted Guatamalan worry dolls – perfect if you've overindulged and you know it.
