It was only a matter of time before the hipsters caught on to Tonkotsu. Its Dean Street restaurant has been doling out steaming, comforting ramen for the past couple of years, only recently opening a second branch under an archway in Haggerston. But boy, are they glad they did. Its simple combination of bouncy noodles, rolled fresh in a glass box adjacent to the tables (this food is good enough to see and be seen), with rich pork stock and goey egg in the classic Tonkotsu ramen (£11) is good enough to slurp down two bowls, as is the plate of gyoza (£5.75). Pair with a cocktail – the list changes regularly, but try the Four Four Sake if you can – and you'll see why E8 is hooked.
