What if your avocado on toast and early morning caffeine-fix didn't just taste good, but did good, too? Well, at Cafe from Crisis it can do just that and more…
Who are they?
A bright and welcoming community-run coffee shop on Shoreditch's Commerical Street, the café is one of three inspirational social enterprises working to end homelessness through practical hospitality training and employment opportunities. It comes from charity Crisis, which has its headquarters just next door, and this year marks 15 years of using food and drink to help people turn their lives around in a beautiful space in the heart of Spitalfields.
What's on the menu?
About 50% of Cafe from Crisis' fresh produce comes from food redistribution charity and fellow Foodism 100 award winner FareShare. The menu changes dependent on the delivery – but whatever the team rustle up, you can be sure that it will be colourful, healthy and delicious. The cafe has also teamed up with fairer-than-Fairtrade coffee roaster Volcano to create its own blend of beans, and the bread for its epic sandwiches comes from Dalston's social enterprise bakery The Dusty Knuckle. Add in the fact that all the furniture in the café is made and upcycled by Tom at Crisis Liverpool, too, and this might be one of the most sustainably minded cafés around.
