Existing as a distillery on its current site since 1843, Glenmorangie is one of those rare breeds that is steeped in heritage while possessing the creativity to experiment with new expressions and interesting cask ageing – something the distillery has been doing in earnest since the 1990s when the now-head of distilling Dr Bill Lumsden joined the company as distillery manager.

For the explorative drinker

Infinita 18YO

There are some whisky drinkers for whom only the most interesting expressions will do. If that’s who you’re shopping for, then reach for the Infinita 18YO. Created to highlight the quintessential Glenmorangie whisky, this liquid starts as the distillery’s silky, fruity spirit, before being aged in hand-selected American oak bourbon casks for 15 years, at which point a portion of the whisky is transferred to Oloroso sherry casks for a further three years. The two are then blended to create a bottle that is complex and ever-changing, opening up with every sip, packed full of rich notes of fig and date, culminating in a smoky finish.

For the luxury chocolate fiend

Signet Reserve

Perhaps two of life’s greatest pleasures, whisky and chocolate, are brought to life in this experimental release. After years of exploring the nuances of delicate whiskies, the Glenmorangie team decided to turn their hand to something bold, elegant and truly indulgent – and Signet Reserve was born. Aged in bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks, a portion of the liquid is then finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks to bring a robust, elevated depth. Expect hints of chocolate, fudge and toffee with a hit of coffee – this is a big, flavour-forward whisky for that true gourmand in your life.

For the true connoisseur

Azuma 23YO

Are you buying for someone whose bar cart reads like a rolodex of the world’s finest whisky? It has to be the Azuma 23YO you’re wrapping up for them this Christmas. Created in collaboration with Japanese artist Azuma Makoto, this expression celebrates the Japanese concept of shinra bansho – which embraces the ground, the sky and everything in between. Dr Bill Lumsden has taken Glenmorangie that has been long-aged in bourbon casks and is full of notes of lemon balsam and orchids, and united that with whisky aged in Burgundian chardonnay casks, adding hints of burnt oak and the rich earth of the forest floor. Plus, aesthetes will be delighted by the bottle’s exceptional design, featuring a bloom of artwork from Makoto.
